Explore Local History

Although the Lagoon Valley Park was not officially established until 1972, it was a popular piece of land in the Vacaville area for many years before that. The land was once home to Native American tribes, and you can still view evidence of that history today. The land was sought after because of its fertile conditions. Although city developments threatened the park over the years, the historical society took control and have continued to preserve the historical land.

The Peña Adobe building is the oldest existing structure in Solano County today. It was once home to the Peña family, a few of Vacaville’s earliest settlers. If you visit the park on the first Saturday of each month, you can join a guided tour for an even more in-depth educational experience.

Hiking/Biking

The Lagoon Valley Park offers recreational activities for all skill levels. For an easier experience, consider taking a stroll along the 2-mile-long low sloping hills. For something a bit more challenging, try the 20-mile loop that winds around the lake, scaling varying degrees of evaluations and slopes.

You might even spot some unique wildlife along your hiking experience. The park is also a popular destination for biking enthusiasts. Bring along your bike to experience even more of the beautiful park.

Participating in Sports

The park is also good for those looking for an afternoon of sporting entertainment. The 27-basket disc golf is unique and can provide for an entertaining experience. There is also an archery course and horseback riding stables. Many pet parents also bring along their dog for an off-leash run through the fenced in dog park.

Fishing

The shallow depth of the Lagoon Valley makes it a great place for fly fishing. The lake is well-stocked and contains fish like bluegill, catfish, and bass. The Lagoon Valley was once known for its catfish derbies back in the 1980s, and many fishermen still come here today to try their skill at catfish fishing. There is a boat ramp that makes it easy to conveniently access the lake.

The Lagoon Valley Park is Vacaville’s connection to nature. Some visit the park for recreation, while others visit for relaxation. Whatever your reason is, you are sure to find enjoyment at the Lagoon Valley Park.
