3 Delicious Bakeries in VacavilleThere’s no place you can go that feels special in quite the same way that a local bakery does. From the smells of hot-from-the-oven soft bread to exquisite filled rolls to cookies baked from recipes that have stood the test of time for generations, it’s the real thing. Check out these three delicious bakeries in Vacaville, California. You’ll be so happy you did.

Pure Grain Bakery & Cafe

Sweet treats are the first thing most people imagine when they think about going to a bakery, but at Pure Grain Bakery in Vacaville, the bread is amazing. You can pick up a loaf of handcrafted muesli, three-grain, whole-wheat, honey and raisin, gourmet rye, or pumpernickel bread made from impressive ingredients. The gourmet rye, for example, is a true Germany rye made from a classic baker’s recipe from Germany. The honey raisin uses local honey, the pumpernickel uses locally milled rye flour, and three of the breads are from in-house sourdough.

Reading about these breads on the menu is like reading a story — a story that start in a small town near Saarbrucken, Germany. Michael Miethe and Holger Seibert were childhood friends there and apprenticed together in Seibert’s father’s bakery. They later completed master’s degrees. Eventually, they decided to bring a German-style bakery to the United States and opened Pure Grain Bakery in 1991, later expanding to open Pure Grain Cafe.

And of course, there are sweet treats, from apple strudel to filled scones to Berliners. Get delicious baked goods at the bakery, located at 600 Eubanks Court, or head downtown to Main Street and Town Square to the cafe for breakfast or lunch. The sandwiches, on that delicious bread, are quite popular. The cafe has plenty of baked good as well.

Starbread

Starbread started as a small Filipino bakery in Vallejo, California, where Nelly and Romy Maranan raised their five children. As the children grew up, they joined the family business, which has grown throughout the Bay Area and Pacifica. The original shop was well-known for its senorita bread, small rolls that are still Starbread’s claim to fame. Customers say the soft bread rolls are impossible to stop eating; price lists in the stores go from two rolls to 60. Also popular is the turon, a lumpia roll featuring sliced bananas inside egg-roll wraps, deep fried and glazed with sugar.

Starbread is located at 1989 Peabody Road. In addition to the Vacaville and Vallejo locations, Starberad is also in Newark, Pacifica, Sacramento, San Pablo, and South San Francisco.

Fantasy Cakes and Fine Pastries

Another local bakery, Fantasy Cakes and Fine Pastries, offers a full line of cookies, fruit tarts, and other sweet treats, but the “wow” factor comes from the bakery’s amazing custom cakes. Customers rave about the delicious cakes, cookies, and other delights at fantasy Cakes and Fine Pastries, which is at 122 S. Orchard Ave.

With so many happy customers, you can’t go wrong with these spots. Try all three of these delicious bakeries and find your favorite items at each one.
